We hope you had the opportunity to see our latest products in action in our Security Operations Center (SOC) at ASIS 2016, the security profession’s premier education and networking event. Some 20,000 security professionals from around the world gathered in Orlando, Florida to discover the latest in security technologies.
We showcased our new Zio® encoders and decoders, an innovative family of products for AV over IP. Visitors admired the range of the Zio system’s advanced capabilities, particularly its intuitive interface. Zio networked AV is compatible with signal sources and displays up to 4K UHD resolution. It uses industry-standard 1G or 10G Ethernet switches, with encoders that support standard HDMI video and audio signals from media players, computers, and other sources, and decoders that drive displays. Our award-winning MediaWall V® processor was on display at ASIS, too. The MediaWall V display processor delivers stunning visuals in real time. Visitors were treated to a spectacular 4K video wall mixing both HD and UHD resolutions in windows spread across the wall. MediaWall V display processor can handle an astounding 96 million pixels at 60 frames per second plus switching, routing, and real-time scaling of images. Its multiple wall option allows up to three walls to be independently controlled from a single processor, resulting in substantial cost savings.
We exhibited another cost-effective solution at ASIS as well—the VIEW Controller. Those who stopped by our booth got a firsthand glimpse at our technology that streamlines operation of our MediaWall display processors. VIEW Controller is fast to implement and economical, replacing complicated third-party controllers that require custom programming. Distribution of audio and video over an IP network is growing dramatically every year. Additionally, today’s mobile workforce presents challenges to include remote workers’ phones and tablets. RGB Spectrum addresses these challenges with a new mobile decoder app as part of its Zio® Networked AV ecosystem.
The Zio decoder app for mobile devices, available now from the Google Play Store, connects a remote workforce. Zio's Unified Management system automatically discovers remote users allowing them to select and view available Zio streams. This functionality allows greater collaboration between facilities and remote users.
In addition to allowing users to "pull" desired content, system operators can "push" content out to them as well. Remote users receive a standard mobile OS notification alerting them to new content availability.

The world's largest modeling, simulation, and training exhibition, the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) wrapped up on Thursday with over 6,000 in attendance. RGB Spectrum showcased the new Zio Networked AV solution built upon experience with earlier generations of streaming and recording codecs currently deployed throughout the U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force.

RGB Spectrum’s new Zio RT® AV-over-IP technology offers networked real-time video and audio distribution over an IP network. The system provides HD and 4K video encoding and decoding over conventional 1GB networks for defense, aerospace and military applications.
Zio RT codecs distribute any content, anywhere, providing a complete AV distribution solution. The system is fully scalable to any size deployment, from a battlefield shelter command post to a multi-building military base.
Offering the most advanced features of any codecs on the market today, Zio RT provides a choice of standards-based compression methods and parameters to optimize for the needs of any environment. Where bandwidth is sufficient, Zio RT supports all I-frame compression to achieve the highest quality and lowest latency. Signal sources and displays up to 4K resolution are supported. Zio RT also offers instantaneous seamless switching, overcoming one of the traditional limits of encoded video.
The Zio RT codec’s innovative peer-to-peer architecture maintains full 24/7 reliability, avoiding “single point of failure” vulnerability. For applications requiring the highest levels of reliability, there are redundant endpoints. An automated failover feature helps ensure continuous operation. End-to-end encrypted transmission is offered as an option.
The Zio RT codecs come packaged in a rugged, conduction-cooled enclosure to stand up to the rigors of challenging environments. They offer locking HDMI connectors with loop through. Power over Ethernet (PoE) is supported to simplify installation. The codecs can also be custom-built for even higher environmental and shock/vibration requirements, including MIL STD 901, 810, 461, 167 and DO160D.
Zio RT is an open system. It can accommodate externally generated video streams from third party H.264/H.265 IP cameras as well as streaming content to smart phones, IPTVs or display devices.
Other advanced IP-friendly features include automatic device discovery and integrated bandwidth management. For sharing video between domains, Zio RT encoders can produce multiple video streams with differing compression parameters, allowing a signal to be optimized to meet the stringent bandwidth, frame delay and jitter challenges of WAN links while keeping the highest quality in its original domain. Fully-integrated control is provided with a powerful, intuitive GUI. An API for control by third party devices is available. Options include KVM and recording. A USB port is standard but can be removed on special order.
The Zio RT endpoints are integrated with RGB Spectrum’s MediaWall and Galileo processors for multi-screen display, i.e. video walls, as well as multiviewers.

RGB Spectrum’s Zio® system offers the IT administrator a complete set of tools for a truly hassle-free transition to networked AV. Our new award-winning solution delivers a peer-to-peer architecture, automatic device discovery, group device control, and bandwidth management to give administrators the power they need to set up quickly and keep operations running smoothly. Zio networked AV provides ease of use, ease of configuration, and ease of management that are second to none.
Zio products are based on a peer-to-peer architecture that provides near infinite scalability. As your system grows, additional Zio endpoints can easily be added. Unlike other networked AV systems that require the additional expense of a dedicated server, the Zio peer-to-peer architecture is server-less, saving money and reducing points of failure. Since coordination in the Zio system is shared across all of the endpoints, no single device failure will prevent your system from working.
Automatic device discovery of Zio products simplifies setup and configuration. When a new Zio endpoint is added to a system, a notification is presented to administrators allowing them to quickly add the new device. The new device will be up and running in a flash.
The Zio device grouping feature makes life easier for both users and administrators. Grouping devices allows users to route content to multiple devices with one action. It can be used by administrators to simultaneously make software updates or define user access controls for devices in a group in a single step. There is no need for administrators to physically be in front of devices for an update.
Group device control is just one of the controls built into Zio AV over IP products. The Zio system can direct third-party devices through scripting. For instance, scripting could be used to turn on a building’s emergency lighting while routing to all displays a prerecorded video asking people to exit the building. Zio networked AV also has the interoperability to be controlled by external systems.
The browser-based interface makes control and management convenient. There is no need to install an app, simply log onto the Zio interface. An administrator or any user (with permission) can use any browser-capable device to customize the routing of sources to one or more displays. Administrators can grant and manage user permissions for end-user control over distribution of content through PCs or tablets.
Another noteworthy attribute is bandwidth management. This is achieved through optimization of compression parameters via the Zio GUI. Sources are encodable as multiple independent streams with different compression parameters, enabling optimization for the different bandwidth needs of local and wide-area networks.
Ease of management is a hallmark of the system. The Zio interface is straightforward, allowing administrators hassle-free management and monitoring. Administrators can quickly define what users can do (i.e., rights management), including the sources, displays, and global presets with which users can interact. Functions such as adding to device groups, renaming devices, changing IP addresses, and adding searchable tags are all done through the browser-based interface. Monitoring performance is equally efficient. Administrators can monitor real-time user activity, device/system health, and network bandwidth from the one interface.
In addition to being easy to operate and manage, the system is simple to configure and install. Zio endpoints can be powered by a PoE+ switch (or any PoE+ source), so there is no need to run separate power cables.
Content distribution across multiple rooms, buildings, and geographies is a breeze. The Zio AV over IP system supports the full gamut of environments – LANs, WANs, and even satellite links – to cover a room, a building, or an enterprise. The U.S. Air Force's 96th Range Control Squadron (96 RNCS) at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida provides real-time mission monitoring and control of the base's Test and Training Range. The 96 RNCS tracks and controls aircraft and weapons in flight, performs data collection and data processing for live and post-mission system performance analysis.
The 96 RNCS uses an array of information systems and applications that display sensor, telemetry and visual data to allow range operators to exercise control over range activities. To improve mission productivity, legacy infrastructure needed to be upgraded to a full networked audio/video solution.
AVI-SPL, the integrator for the project, chose RGB Spectrum's Zio® AV-over-IP technology. Zio codecs are used to decode more than 150 live visuals from test range cameras integrated with sensor, telemetry and tracking data. The D2004 codecs provided the capacity to handle the multicast IP camera feeds of varying resolutions up to 4K and decode them for viewing.
Zio codecs provide an easily manageable H.264 stream decoding platform for secure AV-over-IP transmission. The test range's 150 incoming camera streams are transmitted over a network to the control room's 24 Zio units for decoding and display. Customizable presets let operators select from the array of incoming streams and arrange them, on-the-fly, into applicable groups for real-time viewing. The codecs can be managed by both third-party control devices and Zio's built-in GUI, to provide multiple points of control during a testing event.

After the debut of the Zio system at InfoComm 2016, media and attendees commended its seamless switching and many innovative features, especially its easy-to-use interface. With Zio networked AV, users can preview content in the browser-based interface and use the drag-and-drop capability to send content to one destination or many. You’ll always find the right content quickly and easily with the Zio search tools.
The Zio user interface is purpose-built for expediency and efficiency. Through the GUI, endpoints can be organized into groups to quickly route a video stream to multiple destinations. For example, using the Zio drag-and-drop interface, a professor can easily route a presentation to multiple displays in multiple classrooms simultaneously. In a corporate setting, an executive can debut a company video in selected corporate and field offices at the same time.
It’s simple to see where all of your sources are routed by checking the Zio GUI and looking at the thumbnails. Each encoded source includes a preview of the content – a thumbnail image of each video stream – to help you quickly identify the desired signal. From the browser-based interface, you can also see what each display has routed to it, as well as any presets and “favorites” you have set up.
Presets let users save the routes they frequently use and then recall them with a single button-press or click. This is a real timesaver. For example, in the event of a breaking news story a user can select a preset that routes local news channels to displays in a control room. Any user task can be automated and accessed from the Zio interface, including controlling third-party devices.
You will also find your “favorites” easily in the GUI. Save yourself time by setting the devices, displays, groups, and presets you frequently use as favorites so you can call them up at any time. For instance, if you work in a building with many conference rooms, you can designate the conference room you use most often as a favorite. That way you won’t have to scroll through the full list of conference rooms. This is another example of how navigation is simplified in the Zio GUI.

RGB Spectrum’s new Zio® Networked AV multiviewers allow multiple video streams and browser-based content to be viewed on a single display. A variety of models provide options for every application.
The compact Zio D2000 Series multiviewer allows up to four 1080p streams, or more at lower resolutions, to be displayed simultaneously. For applications requiring more streams, the Zio D3000 Series multiviewers build on this functionality, increasing the number of simultaneous streams displayed. For example, the D3124 model allows up to sixteen 1K, eight 2K or two 4K streams, or more at lower resolutions.
All multiviewer models can display Zio’s new WebView browser-based content along with video streams. Web pages, tickers, analytics – anything that can be displayed in a web browser – can be dragged and dropped onto a window on the screen along with encoded video streams. The Zio Encryption Advantage
Zio architecture utilizes standards-based packetization for secure transmission on IP networks and compatibility with IP switches. It deploys the same conventional encryption technology adopted for government, financial, and other applications. Zio's devices encrypt the IP streams to ensure that if the stream is intercepted, it cannot be decoded or viewed.
How Zio's AV- over- IP Encryption Works
Zio's advanced AV-over-IP architecture offers two optional encryption methods to choose from: RGB Encryption and HDCP, which is prevalent with broadcast media. For both methods, encryption originates with Zio encoders. Video and audio signals are fed into the Zio encoder which then encrypts the video and audio separately for maximum security.
Zio's encryption ciphers encrypt and decrypt IP data in blocks using cryptographic keys. These symmetric ciphers use the same key for encrypting and decrypting, so both the Zio encoder and decoders must know, and use, the same "secret key". The encrypted IP data can only be decrypted with these "secret keys".
Zio's advanced encryption process deploys the latest Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and Authenticated Key Exchange (AKE). AKE is a key exchange protocol which authenticates all of the devices involved and exchanges the session key amongst these devices. RGB Encryption executes a 256-key cipher, HDCP encryption executes a 128-key cipher. The RGB Encryption cipher protects classified information up to the highest "Top Secret" level. The HDCP cipher protects classified information up to the next lower "Secret" level.
Management of the entire encrypted AV-over-IP system is simple using Zio's intuitive GUI. This elegant, easy-to-use interface provides unified control of all elements in the entire Zio architecture, which can also include third-party devices, such as codecs and IP cameras. The Zio GUI controls and reports the encryption setting and status of each Zio encoder, decoder and multiviewer in the system.

RGB Spectrum is excited to announce the new Zio Decoder App for Smart Displays. The Decoder App enhances the capabilities of smart displays by allowing you to decode an IP stream directly on the display, without external hardware and offers access to the Zio system’s advanced GUI and features.
The proliferation of network-based sources continues to explode. Security cameras, media players, and other devices encode signals for network distribution. Decoding those streams directly on smart displays simplifies system configuration by eliminating the need for a separate decoder connected to the display. Less hardware and cabling means faster installations and lower costs.
The worldwide debut of this unique integration of the Zio Decoder App and a smart display will be at the Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) show in Amsterdam, Feb 6-9 at the Panasonic booth (1-H20). Panasonic’s AF1 Series displays will be supported initially, with other manufacturers and models to follow.

More than 73,000 people from around the world converged in Amsterdam for the 2017 Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) show in February. RGB Spectrum’s new Zio® Networked AV products, video wall processors and multiviewer products were on display.
Named “Best of Show” at its InfoComm 2016 debut, Zio encoders, decoders, and multiviewers provide simple scalability and ease of use through a unique peer-to-peer architecture. Zio networked AV is compatible with signal sources and displays up to 4K UHD resolution. It uses industry-standard 1G or 10G Ethernet switches. Encoders accept standard HDMI video and audio signals from media players, computers, and other sources; decoders drive displays. Video, audio, and control data are converted to IP packets that can be switched and routed to any location on the network.
Attendees were impressed by the integration of Zio products with RGB Spectrum’s award-winning MediaWall® V and Galileo video wall processors and QuadView® UHD multiviewer. Zio encoded IP streams can be decoded directly on the Galileo wall processor. Signals distant from the processing equipment can be encoded, sent across the network and decoded for input. Outputs from a wall processor can also be encoded for remote displays providing the ability to duplicate or mimic any content on the video wall including the entire video wall.
