UCLA Medical Center specifies Linx 8x8 DVI Matrix Switcher

When the UCLA Medical Center designed their Neurological Operating Suite the mission requirement was for an all-digital HD path between sources and displays. High-tech medicine demands top quality video and graphics imaging. To route high resolution digital signals form sources to displays, Roderick Plummer, Chief Design Engineer at Karl Storz Endoscopy, specified a Linx™ 8x8 DVI Matrix Switcher.

Sources include an Endoscopic Camera with a resolution of 1080p, a Room Overview camera at 1080i, a Surgical In-light camera, a Stereo Tactical Surgical Navigation system, and a PACs PC for medical images like patient x-rays. Content includes video, images from the medical cameras, computer images such as three-dimensional renderings of human anatomy.

The equipment previously used had proven inconsistent in performance as well as difficult to use. One major issue was that the various signal sources presented a wide range of resolutions and EDID protocols. So a switcher with advanced EDID management capabilities was needed. The Linx's Total EDID Manager™ software tremendously simplified the operation. With the signals routed through the Linx to an RGB Spectrum Media Wall processor, it provides UCLA accurate, jitter-free images 24/7, 365 days a year.
