RGB Spectrum Boosts Social Media Engagement for Georgia Power

Georgia Power opened a state-of-the-art Social Media Center to meet the increasing demand for enhanced customer service and communication. Housed at the company's Atlanta headquarters, RGB Spectrum solutions play a vital part in facilitating fast and accurate online communications between the Social Media Center and Georgia Power's customers.

Previously, the company relied on telephones, email and other traditional methods which resulted in longer wait times for customers and stalled workflows for employees. RGB Spectrum solutions allow operators in the new Social Media Center to simultaneously display multiple social media feeds and share desktops/tablets on interactive SMART boards, and other displays to facilitate responses. Customers with general inquiries about billing, service, or energy efficiency can now expect a response within ten minutes via social media. In the event of severe weather, the social media platform enables immediate communication with the public, quick responses and better problem solving.

Avyve, an AV integration firm in Atlanta, designed and implemented the project. They chose RGB Spectrum products for their cutting-edge innovation, 24/7 reliability, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness. MultiPoint® Control Room Management stations control the Media Wall V® Display Processors feeding two edge-blended Panasonic laser projectors. A total of 26 CAT Linx HDBaseT Extenders transmit video signals in and out of the Center. In addition, the installation uses DSx 264 encoders to stream content to employees throughout the building and in remote locations.

Programmer Michael Hrebenak, CTS, faced several challenges. The biggest was to design a unified AV system that could display a variety of information sources simultaneously. He needed a control management system that would consolidate and simplify control of all the devices in the room. MultiPoint was chosen for its intuitive GUI, ease-of-use, and many capabilities. In addition, RGB Spectrum's MultiPoint quickly and easily enables routing and control of the source computers. Finally, the design called for an edge-blended presentation system plus several secondary local displays. The video wall processor had to be capable of handling nearly 18 sources and up to 24 outputs. RGB Spectrum's versatile MediaWall V met the requirements perfectly.

"Understanding how these components work together is one thing," said Hrebenek. "But seeing the end-users on the system first-hand is where the WOW factor really kicks in." He continued, "Not only does the final result look great, the system is easy to use and helps the team to be more efficient at managing Georgia Power's social network and corporate communications."

The progressive, 21st Century collaborative work space, made possible by RGB Spectrum, has positioned Georgia Power at the forefront of the utility industry in the way they communicate online with the public.
