HDBaseT and PoH for the Linx Matrix Switcher

RGB Spectrum continues to expand the capabilities of its Linx™ Matrix Switcher system with the addition of CAT-Linx™ products for HDBaseT transmission—a full range of input and output cards, wall plates, and transmit and receive endpoints.

RGB Spectrum's Linx matrix switchers are the most versatile switchers on the market. They provide connectivity solutions for a variety of applications that require signal distribution within rooms, and across buildings and campuses, by accommodating any mix of copper, fiber, or twisted pair cable connections. The new CAT-Linx cards, which easily install in any available slot of the Linx matrix switcher chassis, complement existing DVI/HDMI® and fiber cards to enhance the functionality of the system.

Using Power over HDBaseT (PoH) technology, CAT-Linx I/O cards provide 48 VDC of power directly to endpoints through the same cable that carries signals, effectively eliminating the need for external power supplies. CAT-Linx cards allow HDMI® (with embedded audio) and serial data to be transmitted reliably between the switcher and endpoints, and are fully compliant with HDBaseT standards to work seamlessly with HDBaseT-compliant third-party endpoints.

CAT-Linx devices also extend RS-232 control by combining serial control signals with video and power and transmitting them over a single CAT‐6 cable. CAT-Linx cards and endpoints can send serial commands from a touch screen control system to disc players, media players, projectors, flat panel displays, and audio processors over cable lengths of up to 100 meters (328 ft). This provides a cost‐effective way to achieve RS‐232 control of systems with multiple sources and displays.

"CAT-Linx products offer tremendous opportunities for custom installation professionals to fully capitalize on installation cost savings," said Jed Deame, vice president of marketing at RGB Spectrum. "CAT-Linx cards are incredibly easy to integrate into a Linx matrix switcher system, providing installers with a cost-effective solution for long cable runs, with video, audio, control, and power being carried over a single cable."

The addition of HDBaseT I/O cards and endpoints, plus PoH, makes Linx the most flexible and feature-packed matrix switcher on the market.
