Development School for Youth (DSY) All Stars Visit RGB Spectrum

On April 21, 2016 RGB Spectrum hosted a group of high school students enrolled in the Joseph A. Forgione Development School for Youth for high-tech focused career workshops at its corporate headquarters in Alameda. Presentations covered a range of topics including career opportunities in marketing, engineering, web development, quality control, and human resources. The highlight was a seminar on entrepreneurship given by Bob Marcus, RGB Spectrum’s founder and CEO.

The Development School for Youth (DSY) is a leadership-training program for students between the ages of 16 and 21. Every year nearly 300 students, recruited from more than 60 high schools across New York City, Newark, Chicago and the San Francisco Bay Area are accepted into the DSY program. The program partners with more than 100 major corporations to provide work place training and summer internship opportunities for DSY graduates.

“This is the fifth year we have been involved with the DSY program,” remarked Mr. Marcus. “Our presenters represent a wide range of backgrounds, experiences and career paths, and the stories and advice that they share about their careers is meant to open the minds of the students to possibilities that may not have occurred to them.  One student is chosen by the DSY to be part of our summer intern program and we have been very impressed by the dedication and professionalism of those who have interned with us.  We are proud to support both of these valuable programs.”

The words of Joseph Forgione sum up the aim of these programs: “I knew…that many people from our inner cities were not being properly prepared by the school system to pursue their career or educational goals. With the creation of the Development School for Youth, …[w]e now have a school that is supported by CEOs, as well as leading scholars and parents. Together we are helping young people succeed by becoming more worldly, and confident to learn new things.”
