New Fiber Optic Matrix Switchers from RGB Spectrum

June 4, 2012, Alameda, CA - RGB Spectrum is introducing the Opto line of fiber optic matrix switchers, transmit and receive modules and related accessories. The Opto line meets the demand for larger switchers and long distance delivery of AV signals. Optical signal transmission offers advantages compared to copper-especially important for enterprise solutions- including longer distance, no EMF susceptibility, smaller and lighter cable, and security.

All fiber components in the signal path are rated at an industry leading 6.22 GHz. Unlike competitive products, this bandwidth ensures that signals with high pixel clock rates can be transmitted without the need for frame duplication or compression schemes, which can cause visual artifacts.

The Opto architecture is extremely flexible. Switcher chassis support a mix of duplex and simplex connections as well as multi-mode and single mode fiber. I/O cards and power supplies are hot swappable as are optional redundant controller cards. Three chassis sizes accommodate non-blocking matrices up to 160x160 duplex. Distances up to 1 km are available over multimode fiber and up to 40 km over single mode fiber.

The Opto TX/RX modules convert between signal sources, including DVI, HDMI, RGB and HD/3G-SDI formats, and fiber optics. Modules are available as either stand-alone or in a convenient, space saving, rack mount format. Up to four modules can populate the 1 RU rack mount chassis. The TX and RX modules can also be used as extender pairs.

Dual-link DVI, audio and serial and network data are options. EDID and HDCP are supported on a DDC return channel.

System configurations and control are accomplished with the Opto WCP graphical user interface. In addition to setting routes and EDID modes, the WCP can create user groups with specific levels of access to sources and routes. Other control options include a dedicated touch panel and serial control by third party systems.
