Gold's Gym Pumps Up its Entertainment System with RGB Spectrum's 4View™ Multiple Window Display Processor
December 20, 2002, Alameda, CA - Gold's Gym in Meridian, Idaho is a showcase facility, offering a stylish and spacious layout, a host of client amenities, and the most advanced equipment for today's health conscious clientele. The Meridian Gold's Gym embarked upon an innovative approach to exercising by providing patrons with a stimulating multimedia experience to make the whole experience fun and more enjoyable. The Meridian Gold's Gym facility was nominated for "Exceptional Interior Design" in 2002.
Gold's Gym utilized the services of Universal Media Connections, an audio-visual systems integrator, to implement a novel entertainment system. Bernie Kattner, President, for Universal Media Connections explained, "the concept was to combine exercise with entertainment. Gold's Gym management wanted a state-of-the art audio-visual system to display a variety of invigorating and informative visuals that would appeal to all the tastes of gym members. We needed to pack this array of visuals on the wall of the vast main fitness room. We designed a system based upon RGB Spectrum's 4View multiple window display processor feeding large screen displays."
Gene Karren, Design Engineer for Universal Media Connections stated, "We chose the RGB Spectrum 4View multiple window display processor for a number of reasons. Due to the expansive 39,000 square foot, two-story size of the facility, Gold's Gym wanted high quality, large scale visuals that could be viewed by patrons throughout the gym. But wall space was limited. So the best solution was to display multiple images on large wall-mounted screens. The 4View processor was exactly what we were looking for. It produces exceptional image quality, handles the quantity and types of video inputs we needed, and gives us the flexibility to display up to four images on a single screen."

Gold's Gym in Meridian, Idaho invigorates its members with a state-of-the-art multimedia entertainment center using RGB Spectrum's 4-View multiple window display processor. |
The 4View processors receive broadcast video input from six satellite receivers with local and national broadcast programming, so members can enjoy viewing the latest sporting events, news, financial information, and entertainment. In another Gold's Gym innovation, the 4View processors also obtain CCTV video inputs from two cameras installed in the gym's "Kid's Club" daycare room, so parents can monitor their children while they are working out.
Each 4View processor outputs to a Christie Digital Roadrunner L8 7700 lumen projector in the projectors' native 1024 x 768 pixel resolution. Visuals are projected onto giant 7.5' x 10' screens. Customers can view any of the screens while they are working out on either the main gym floor or the second floor exercise areas. The 4View processor provides Gold's Gym personnel the choice of displaying video inputs in split-screen quad mode or full screen mode using simple front panel controls.
Rob O'Donahue, Public Relations Manager for the Boise, Idaho Gold's Gym franchise, commented, "The new entertainment system is a hit with our members. They walk into an upbeat environment that motivates them to get moving and exercising. The RGB Spectrum 4View display processor is awesome. We are extremely pleased with it."

O'Donahue continued, "One of the most popular ways we use the 4View processor is to display multiple sporting events simultaneously on the giant screens. The image quality is outstanding. People absolutely love it." The 4View™ processor displays four video inputs at full resolution at up to 1280 x 1024 or 1600 x 1200i pixels, for dramatically better visual quality than traditional video quads, which display each video signal at only 25% of true resolution. Various models offer NTSC/PAL composite, S-Video and SDI (CCIR 601) digital video inputs. In addition to high resolution RGB output, a full time auxiliary NTSC video output is available to connect to a codec for video teleconferencing and distance learning applications. For 16:9 screens, the 4-View 100 offers a wide screen mode with one large video window plus 3 stacked windows on the side.
